Circular economy

Leather is not just a waste material of the food industry transformed into a high quality, long-lasting product.

The whole tanning process is circular by nature, because it creates production waste that becomes raw materials for other industrial supply chains.

Those same resources used by the tannery process are part of this circular wheel. Water, for example, the most important raw material, is purified by advanced systems that help avoid negative impacts on the ecosystem.

The Italian tanning industry sees all the involved participants as being closely interconnected, because sharing knowledge and implementing sustainable practices along the whole value chain can help maximise the positive effects of the tanning circular economy. Recovering tanning waste, which is then transformed into fertilisers and biostimulants used in agriculture, makes the aspiration of closing the circle of natural materials and starting again with a new cycle become real.
